Turbine ventilation: Twister
» Back to turbine ventilation
Drawing on Turbo Vent's knowledge of turbine ventilators, we designed and launched the Twister in Southern Africa in 1995. Lower in cost, yet incorporating best-of-breed features of competitive brands, this rugged turbine ventilator is ideal for heavy-duty industrial use.
Differentiating design benefits
The Twister is available in two materials: premium quality, rust-proof aluminium; and a highly durable galvanised steel, recommended for coastal areas’ gusting winds. Tests prove the Twister's sturdiness in high-wind speeds of up to 160km per hour
Warranty, sizes and colour options
- The Twister is backed by a 5 year warranty.
- It's available in two sizes – a 500mm diameter neck and a 610mm diameter neck.
- The Twister can be colour coated to match your roof.

General specifications
The Twister was designed in South Africa, drawing on more than a decade of experience in installing turbo vents. It was designed as a rugged, low cost solution for ventilating industrial buildings in Africa.
High quality ball bearings
The Twister turbine has two high quality sealed bearings, for long life and trouble free performance as well as specially designed bearing housing for additional protection from heat, dirt and moisture. The bearings are widely spaced to improve performance.
The choice of galvanised mild steel or aluminium
The Twister is available in either high-quality, light-weight aluminium or in rugged galvanised mild steel. Aluminium assures a rust free life span, but a mild steel turbine will last for a long time, even in coastal regions.
Responsiveness
In spite of the Twisters’ size, it is particularly responsive to the slightest convection current or breeze. This is due to the widely spaced bearings, made possible by the external bracing system; the efficiency of the bearings and the extensive sail area presented by the unusually high number of vanes. There are 36 uniquely shaped vanes for enhanced effectiveness. Adding to that, the aluminium version of the Twister has a particularly low inertia due to the lightness of the dome.
Waterproof and dust repellent
The vanes of the Twister are shaped to prevent rain and dust from penetrating the dome. Extra large flashing enables leak proof installation.
Maintenance free
The Twister is resistant to rust and corrosion and the bearings are lubricated with heat resistant grease are permanently sealed, thus providing complete protection against dust and moisture. These features render the Twister maintenance free. These turbines are designed and manufactured in Southern Africa for convenience and low costing.
Warranty
The Twister is backed by a five year warranty covering defective materials and manufacture
Proven performance
The Twister has been tested to withstand wind speeds gusting up to 160km per hour. There are thousands of units installed around Southern Africa providing ventilation to a wide range of buildings.
Size and colour
The Twister has a neck diameter of 500mm. The standard mill aluminium or galvanized finish can be colour coated upon request. The Twister is available with either a 500mm or 610mm throat diameter.
Versatile mounting
Normally, the dome assembly can be mounted on the standard cylindrical neck that incorporates a sliding joint and flange. The flange facilities water tight attachment to most types of roof and the sliding joint enables the neck to be elbowed so that the spindle can be set vertically on roofs pitched between 0¼ and 23¼. An optional neck is available to accommodate roofs pitched between 0¼ and 45¼. As an alternative to the standard cylindrical neck, a special square-to-round mounting can be provided to suit the application.
